The unquantified self #34

July 17, 2026

Again, about a year since the last entry but that’s okay. I didn’t expect this tag to be the most representative category of this blog, nor to spend too much time speaking of what I do outside work. In this particular case, I did almost nothing, except being remembered that time goes by, along memories.

In fact, I spent most of my time on this corner of the internet posting summaries of my micro posts. I barely wrote about what I’ve been exploring along the way: some Rust, some Julia for personal pet projects; way too much Python for work-related projects.

If I were to choose among all the pictures I took this year, I would probably retain the following:

They probably appear on the micro-blog already. Shooting around the city by night. Actually, I’m spending twice as much time walking this year as I did last year, and those pictures were taken at night, during the cool winter. Lately, I’ve been doing my hour of brisk walking in the morning to avoid the heat of the day.

Apple Music says I have 26,556 tracks totalling 77.2 days of listening time, for just about 200 Go on my HD. Since my internet connection has been virtually non-existent over the last three months, I can only be pleased that I store all my music offline.

This year I haven’t read as much as I would have liked, but the year is not over, right? I should note that I read a lot of technical material that is not listed in this reading list. Anyway, I should read more. And I’m going to carry on walking – it’s the best thing to do, probably the best thing I can do at the moment.
